Convention center hotel opponents file second lawsuit seeking vote on subsidy!!

Critics of a plan to use public dollars to back a hotel at the Oregon Convention Center have launched a second legal challenge of the project. Paige Richardson, a spokeswoman for an opposition group, is the plaintiff in a lawsuit filed in Clackamas Circuit Court on Friday against the Metro regional government. The suit, citing state law, argues that Metro doesn’t have the authority to help finance construction of the proposed Hyatt Regency hotel at the Oregon Convention Center. Metro, which operates the Oregon Convention Center, has led this effort to build hotel at the facility, in part with revenue bonds backed by hotel lodging taxes. The lawsuit seeks an injunction prohibiting Metro from issuing the bonds until after it’s approved by voters.
