Oregon 1st state to adopt auto Voter Registration

Motor Voter Bill. Agree or disagree? Governor Kate Brown signed the first-of-its kind legislation into law today. Let us know what you think about it below. SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Gov. Kate Brown has signed first-of-its-kind legislation under which anyone with an Oregon driver’s license will be automatically registered to vote.
During the Monday signing ceremony, Brown said the bill makes voting more secure, cost effective and convenient. Officials say it will add about 300,000 new voters. Oregon is the first state to shift its system from one where voters opt-in to one where they instead have to opt-out. Under the bill, the Department of Motor Vehicles will electronically transfer information to the secretary of state, who will then automatically update voter rolls. Opponents raised concerns about potential voter fraud, the cost of implementing the measure, and whether the DMV can ensure personal information remains secure.
